Meet the Vikings

Viking Life - Weapons and Warfare

Although most Vikings were farmers, traders and crafts people. It is the Viking warriors and their attacks that are usually remembered.

In manuscripts, like the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles, the Anglo-Saxon monks only wrote about the Vikings as raiders and invaders rather than as traders and settlers. This is one of the reasons why the Vikings are often remembered mainly as warriors.

How does this Viking warrior compare to Anglo-Saxon warriors?

Vikings and Anglo-Saxons used the same types of weapons and dressed very similar. In fact, they used the same tactics in battle, particularly the shield wall. The main difference between Viking and Anglo-Saxon warriors is that the Vikings used ships more than the Anglo-Saxons, and were probably better sailors.
