Roman Coins in Anglo-Saxon graves

In Anglo-Saxon England money and coins went out of use when the Romans left. In fact the Anglo-Saxons used Roman coins as pendants, piercing a hole in them and placing them on necklaces.

Roman coins are also found in Anglo-Saxon graves - such as those in the picture which were found in female child's grave (grave no. 59) at Abingdon in Oxfordshire.
