Penannular Brooches

Penannular brooch from Brighthampton Oxfordshire (AN1966.24)

Penannular brooches were made of a circular loop with a gap where the pin went through.

These brooches are sometimes made of wire and often undecorated. These brooches (AN1966.24 & 1966.29) were both found at Brighthampton in Oxfordshire and are made of iron.

This type of brooch was worn in England before the Anglo-Saxons arrived and continued to be used into the medieval period.
