Fire Steel from Brighthampton, Oxfordshire

Fire steel from Brighthampton (AN1966.18)

This fire steel was excavated from an Anglo-Saxon grave at Brighthampton in Oxfordshire.

The fire steel (AN1966.18) was probably also a purse mount and would have formed part of a purse or pouch.

A fire steel was a vital object to Anglo-Saxons since it would be used to light fires.

The only other object found in this grave was a knife (AN1966.17). Knife from Brighthampton (AN1966.17)
