This fire steel was excavated from an Anglo-Saxon grave at Brighthampton in Oxfordshire. The fire steel (AN1966.18) was probably also a purse mount and would have formed part of a purse or pouch. A fire steel was a vital object to Anglo-Saxons since it would be used to light fires. |
