These objects are from a childs grave found at Brighthampton in Oxfordshire.

The grave contained:

  • five beads
Glass beads
  • bronze ring
Bronze ring
  • bronze pin
Bronze pin

We do not know if the child in this grave was male or female, as if often the case with children's graves. This makes it difficult to know what younger children wore. We can sometimes guess at the sex of children's graves from the presence of objects, like pairs of brooches,

In this grave, the pin was probably used to fasten clothes. The beads and ring were probably worn for decoration. The beads and ring suggest this child was female, since women tended to wear beads and rings more than men. However we cannot be certain.

Archaeologists tend to assume children were dressed in similar clothes to their parents.
